Hi Seamus and co. Here's a few queries re the annual French tax return :
1) By what date must it be returned ?
2) Is it a simple enough document to complete correctly ?
... or ...
3) Would you recommend getting a professional to deal with this ?
If so can you recommend someone?
Hi Seamus,
I think my original question in May, anticipated my current problem.
Although my leaseback property is not yet complete, I received a letter from the French revenue asking me to make a return for 2005 no later than 20 August.
My estate agent gave me the contact of the accountant who I believe is handling my VAT recovery. Although I have attempted to contact him by telephone and also sent him a letter with a copy of the letter from the French revenue department, I have heard nothing from him.
I am concerned that I will be charged penalties for a late tax return even though I did not know that I had to declare rental income on an incomplete property.
I have been on the French revenue's website, and things look user friendly there. Is it a legal requirement for me to use an intermediary or do you think I can file my own tax return without using a "cabinet".
In a nutshell my question is ... Does France have self assessment in relation to tax returns ?
Remember this is just to send in a nil declaration !
