Maybe we should all be hounding the tourism minister
Pascal donohoe of fine gael -im sure he would be very interested
In irish people problems abroad and who in turn would be letting his
French counterpart that french back leasing is going to explode in
His face !!
Has anybody attemted to go public to the papers or even ring rte and
Chat with someone in primetime ..
It needs seriously to go public ...
Ive sent an email to pascal donohoe ..
Just wait an see what response i get...
There is a lively Facebook page where the French people impacted get together and try and put pressure on the french government
Its called Odalys Proprietaires and has about 650 members
they have got on TV and Radio a few times and lobbied MP's and MEPs
So far I dont think they have had much success
I would not mind phoning Joe Duffy or the Irish Times if there were others out there who would join in with me ?
I would like to know has any Irish person defaulted on their French mortgage and got away with it ?
Carol
Your question "has anyone defaulted and got away with it"
See previous threads x 2 that I have raised on this forum and note replies therein.
I would feel hundreds if not thousands of non-French leaseback owners have defaulted.
Have they 'got away with it' ?. I think this question should be directed at the banks not the duped unfortunates who were scammed into 'investing' in these schemes.
There would appear to be an increasing number of legal cases beginning to come to court alleging mis-selling & fraud.
I am nearly 2 years into my litigation process. No attempt has been made to repossess at this stage.
Not one reply to my most recent thread would indicates that people are being pursued. How could they be ?. They are the true victims here.
My excellent French lawyer ( the first person in this whole debacle that I feel has ever had prioritised my interests has been very clear always: one is obliged to initiate legal action within 5 years of problems first appearing to have a viable legal case. One can't argue legally for fraud/mis-selling outside of this.
My advice for what it is worth: a) stop being taken for a fool b) take legal action -- best hedge at this stage
...and to add to that, never sign anything relating to rent reduction. If you don't they will have to stick to the terms of your lease or be put into receivership/liquidation after to enforce your commandement de payer. Accepting a rent reduction is the first step in handing even more power over to crooks.
Thanks to all comments . I have written to the French Ambassador here to let him know what I think of French Leasebacks !! Not sure he will respond but will let you know . Also asked him for the name of whoever/ whatever is in charge of al, this in France ...not sure he will tell me but sure he knows . Yes someone has put me in touch with a very good French Solicitor so I will see wht he advises to do . Thanks for all the help and advice it is so upsetting to have deal with all this and it wastes so much time for everyone involved . It is great to have this website to hear other views

As I previously said on this forum.i emailed pascal donohoe who is the minister for tourism .
i actually got a reply ...
maybe good or bad but it's a start ..
im waiting for him to contact me
John
Great John , would be interested in hearing the reply ....but with all the fuss going on with the government now ..not really sure who is in charge of anything any more .
Worried (who replied to me ) . You are correct we are the victims in all of this but Barclays bank does not see it like this . If I am even one day over the payment day i get about 3 phone callls from Paris ordering me to pay or take the consequences . I am sick of them . I wrote to the UK Chairman last year about all of this and asked if i could please just pay the interest or stop payments for a few months but got a very stong NO reply from him too . At this stage I am convinced that they are happy that I am in this position and it is all my own fault for being so stupid in the first place to buy these apartments . I am now getting legal advice on where I stand at the moment .

You might be interested in this french website - run by journalists I think - which aims to expose the French leaseback scam.

My stomach turned reading that

I think career politicians like Paschal Donohoe are more concerned with their political future than the plight of Irish citizens who have been scammed by French crooks. I think the only way it would work was to get him to commit to attend a meeting of owners from all over Irelane who have been scammed. I'd also invite the French ambassador. If this happened I would be willing to put up with Donohoe's irritating voice if it meant something might be done. I am recently out of the leaseback nightmare (through pure luck) but my bitterness now is as strong as it was a few years ago. This is the greatest legalised proprty scam in Europe. The French are grade A crooks and need to be exposed for what they are.
Hi Juan
yes I fully agree with you ....just wondering how you managed to get out of it ?? Selling ?
carol
Yes we all sold when an investor offered to buy the entire building. We made a 10% loss but were glad to get out. We refused a 50% rent reduction 'offer' and forced the company into liquidation and had our leases cancelled.
