what is the easiest, cheapest and most pain free way to get money from the U.K. into a french bank account. possibly in the region of £200 3 times a year???
I thought linking a Paypal account to our french account would be simple. but a u.k. Paypal account cannot be linked to a french bank account and you cannot open a french Paypal account without a personal French address....
any ideas / answers please
Very good question. We've just recently used Nationwide who charged a £20 fixed fee and they transferred at the commercial rate, but I think you would need an account with Nationwide. The funds also appeared in our French account on the same day we did the transfer! Check that your bank account in France doesn't charge to receive funds. There are probably better deals out there though if you know where to look and I would love to hear of them. For such small sums of money it might be best to withdraw it from a cash machine whilst you're in France and pay it directly into your French bank account. It's probably much cheaper to pay in £600 once a year.
Agreed. But in this day and age it should be simple. Example, using paypal you can pay for something in seconds from Australia,Hong Kong, China, japan, USA etc etc. Simple as it gets. Should be as simple as writing out a standard cheque in Euros instead of pounds.
Or we could start trading in potatoes!!!!!!!!!!
i m complaining to the financial ombudsman about bank charges for this service as my basnk charge £21 per transaction but only £10 to another bank in the same group. They have massively reduced the charges for other services but not this one so i think it neeeds looking at.
