Challenge to Tax fonciere

Hi

 

We have recieved and paid a tax fonciere bill for €1,810.

We were advised on purchase that this should have been approx €12/m2   - apartment size is 57m2 so about €684

Does anyone know how we can challenge the amount?

I don't think you can challenge it Richard. The taxe fonciere rate is set by local government and is based on the "notional rental value". I am assuming your property is in a high value location.

Seamus , thanks for the response. Our property is in Flaine, and looking at local estate agents, other similar size properties are showing a much smaller amount. about 700 euro instead of the 1800 we have been charged. We have spoken to some people who think our charge is high as well , but trying to get advise on how we can proceed ( unfortunately we are not very good french speakers)

i have a question re insurance on my leaseback. My apartment is currently being rented by p&v under a lease. Should I have insurance separately on this apartment for a person getting injured or for any other reason or would p&v have insurance to cover this? If I do need insurance who would you recommend??

If you are in a lease then then in almost all cases the required insurance will be paid by the management company. It will de defined in your lease.

Theoretically yes, but by and large when dealing with French Leaseback we are doing business with French crooks. I'd ask to examine the policy. We insured ours for building damage because we did not trust the management company. We used AXA in France. For a 30 square metre apartment on the Cote d'Azur it was approx €90.

did you just get onto Axa in France through a French website or can it be done through axa in Ireland?

I got a quote from them - though didn't follow up as the operator provided evidence of insurance.

This is a reply to Murphy1 about  insurance.  We are with the same residence and it is a PV lease so the insurance is covered by them during the time of the lease but as that is ending in September this could all change.
